Cornifesto is one of the oldest grape varietals in the Douro, with constant presence in the regions oldest vines, for its rusticity and adaptability, becoming one of the farmer’s favourite grapes uo until the beginning of the 70s. A very original varietal, producing very low yields, characterized by a medium sized, compact cluster and small berries with very thick dark skin, which suggest good quality and a very diverse style of wine. The Series Cornifesto was the first example of its kind, which we believe has much potential for future vinifications.
From all the grapes that take part in this innovative recovery project for rare indigenous varietals, both Tinta Francisca and Cornifesto have revealed to be the most resistent to the austere conditions of our region. The Cornifesto’s thick skin and low yields inspire us to make a wine rich in structure and concentration. The Fermentation for this wine occurs in small stainless steel tanks with pelicular maceration, followed by and ageing period of 8 months in used french oak barriques.
A very original wine that unviels a strong and differentiating character. On the nose, shows greenish nuances that combine with fine ripe fruit notes and suggestions of spice, offering complexity. On the palate it is fresh and, yet elegant, with a sense of a balsamic texture, revealing the essence of the Cornifesto through a medium bodied structure and lively acidity.
