To conclude this Quinta de Cidrô range, we have created a very original blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Touriga Nacional, uniting Portugal’s best and most emblematic grape, to the world’s best-known variety and the one responsible for great wines worldwide. Cabernet Sauvignon was the first foreign red grape to be planted at Quinta de Cidrô, in 1993, together with Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. Since 2004, with the development of the Quinta de Cidrô range and its growing popularity, we focused this very specific wine to become the Quinta’s approach to Cabernet; considering the two aspects of our culture: Experimentation & Innovation and Quality & Consistency.
The first Cabernet vines were planted with the purpose of making a single varietal wine. However, these wines were rather dull and unoriginal, in a sense that they were slightly incomplete. The idea of joining a Touriga Nacional (later planted) from a neighbouring parcel came in 2000 and was assigned to the brand Grantom Reserva. The presence of the Touriga Nacional offered the wine a charming roundness in fruit, but mostly its classic floral aromas.
This wine presents a powerful structure and great aromatic complexity. Its aromas of blackberries, currant, peppers, vanilla, chocolate combined with its floral notes, typical of the Douro, reveal a truly splendid bouquet. On the palate it shows power and complexity, yet elegance and finesse.
