The Real Companhia Velha Espumante Brut is a result of a very careful selection of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, mainly from Quinta de Cidrô located in São João da Pesqueira, and some Pinot Noir from Quinta do Casal da Granja located on the Alijó plateau. Cidrô’s terroir is characterized by its high altitude and mild climate, factors that allow a longer vegetative cycle, making it possible to harvest the Pinot Noir and the Chardonnay at the right point for a sparkling wine. This beautiful estate, although located on a high plateau, offers very poor and dry xist soils, resulting in lower yields that benefit this wine with an excellent texture, volume and acidity. On the Alijó plateau, soils are somewhat richer and the climate is cooler, resulting in lighter, yet more fresh and aromatic wines. The harvest is purposelly done prematurely in order to keep high acidity levels and the grapes are vinified in small tanks previous to final blending.
Traditionally we seek a consistent blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, which we vinify seperatly in small stainless steel tanks. The wine is blended and bottled for second fermentation in bottle, ageing for a period of 4 months before degorgement and release into market. 4 anos, até ao degorgement.
Beautiful blush colour, revealing youth and character. Fresh and aromatic, with very elegant fruit notes ensuring intensity and finesse. Flavourful and lush on the palate, with suggestions of red berries and brioche, offering a very unique style of Douro sparkling. ra um espumante duriense.
