Quinta das carvalhas Late Bottled Vintage

Although made from one specific Vintage, as shown on the lable, LBV’s (on the contrary to Vintage Ports) are bottled between the fourth and sixth year of ageing. This longer ageing period ensures a smoother and rounder palate, making this wine enjoyable for immediate consume. The Quinta das Carvalhas LBV is made from selected parcels of Old Vines planted almost one century ago at the Quinta.

Winemaking

The grapes are hand-picked in a cirurgical manner, to ensure the quality for this LBV. Fermentation takes place in the stone lagares followed by the traditional treading by foot, which, ensures greater yet softer extraction for the necessary concentration. Ageing occurs in oak vats for a period of 4 to six years, on the contrary to a Vintage Port, which ages only 2 years.

TASTING NOTES

This LBV divulges a balanced bouquet of mature black cherries, nuances of cistus combined with dark chocolate and hints of wood. Full-bodied, fruity, dense, rich and firm with a great length of flavour, result of the prolonged stay in wood.

FOOD PAIRING

Dark Chocolate
Roquefort Cheese
Red Fruits
